Allan Jaffe, MD, FACC

            

Allan S. Jaffe, M.D. is Professor of Medicine and a Consultant in Cardiology and Laboratory Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.  Dr. Jaffe is a graduate of the University of Maryland Medical School.  He was a house officer in Internal Medicine and a Cardiology fellow at Washington University and remained on the faculty there from 1978-1995.  At the time he left to become the Chief of Cardiology and Associate Chief of Medicine at the Satre University of New York at Syracuse, he was a full professor with an international academic reputation in the fields of acute ischemic heart disease, depression and heart disease, advanced cardaic life support and biomarkers of cardiac injury.  Prior to leaving Washington University, he was instrumental in the clinical development of the cardiac troponin I assays.  He was in Syracuse from 1995-1999 when he left to continue his academic career at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.  He continues to be internationally known for his work in the areas mentioned above.  He was the co-Chair of the ENRICHD trial and the chair of the Biochemistry panel of the ESC/ACC task force for the redefinition of myocardial infarction.  He is on 8 editorial boards including JACC, AJC, Clincal Chemistry, the AJG, Clinical Proteomics, Psychosomatic Medicine, Cardiology Today, Cardiovascular Therapuetics and only recently rotated off the Circulation board.  He has written well over 300 articles, book chapters and guest articles.  He has two children, Seth 26 and Devorah 22.

Understand differences and similarities in treatment between men and women.

Attempt to understand the reasons for differences and similarities.
