Program Overview
Welcome
to our site!
We are now starting to assemble our
faculty for the 2002 version of our teaching days. Check back and watch our
program unfold. We will post all the information as we get it.
Conference
Objective:
To offer a top-notched weekend
program that will expose the participants to State-of-the-Art knowledge on a
variety of pulmonary issues.
This conference offers a nationally
known faculty presenting cutting edge topics in the areas of Pulmonary Medicine,
Respiratory and Critical Care. We realize how difficult it is for physicians and other busy health care professionals
to get out of the office to advance their knowledge. Our goal is to offer a top-notch weekend program in an attractive
setting, one that will provide a “learning get-away” for registrants as well
as fun activities for their families.
Both full program and day registration
is available. Due to the nature of
weekend rotation schedules, there will be registrants who can attend only one
day. Sunday’s program will emphasize
Asthma and Pediatrics and will have sessions directed at patients and families.
Some talks will be for a general audience, to allow something of interest
to a spouse or guest, or to just to break up the day.
A mix of plenary lectures and smaller group workshops will be offered. To
enhance the learning experience, some plenary sessions will feature an
interactive component.
Introduction
Nearly 335,000 Americans die of lung
disease each year. It is the #3 killer in this country, responsible for one in seven deaths.
In Central New York and the Finger Lakes
region, an estimated 1,800 people suffer from lung cancer; an estimated 300,000
suffer from the ravages of chronic lung disease, including emphysema, chronic
bronchitis and asthma.
Add to that another 800,000 individuals
who will suffer from intermittent acute lung disease in the upcoming year
affecting their everyday quality of life. How many times do we miss days from
work or not enjoy an anticipated event due to a cold, the flu, bronchitis or
pneumonia.
Lung disease isn’t just a killer. For
many, it is a chronic ailment, where struggling to get a breath of air becomes a
way of life. It is a also a disease
that can effect all of us. Given
these facts, the importance of educating health providers in New York and the
Northeast on respiratory issues becomes evident.
Families Welcome!
To
insure the program is attractive to the busy health care professional, a variety
of “family friendly” activities will be offered. On-site dinner and
after-dinner activities will be available for attendees and their and families.
Interactive Panel Discussion
A
highlight of Pulmonary Teaching Day has always been the interactive panel
discussion, where visiting faculty provide questions that are either
controversial, or the conventional wisdom is wrong.
Audience member’s keypad their responses and the panel reacts in real
time to the answers. Discussion on
the teaching point follows, which makes for a lively and spontaneous session.
