The health care policies governing federal and state programs have a direct and far reaching effect on where respiratory therapists can provide services and under what mechanisms they can be reimbursed for their services. Knowing what programs are available, such as state funded smoking cessation programs paid for by the tobacco settlement monies, or the structure of the various new prospective payment systems under the Medicare benefits can better position the respiratory therapist in the health care arena.

Objectives:

bullet

To understand the most recent state & federal issues, and how they affect the respiratory therapy profession and practitioner.

bullet

To understand the role the individual RT can, should and must play in directing health policy.
