A presentation demonstrating the process how ventilator waveforms are generated and how to recognize normal/abnormal situations from given scalars.  The presentation will also include basic understanding of pressure/volume loops and flow/volume loops. Moreover, commonly encountered abnormal waveforms, their underlying causes and corrective actions will be discussed.

Objectives:

bullet

Recognize flow/time, pressure/time and volume/time scalars associated with control, assist, SIMV and SIMV+PSV modes on volume targeted and pressure targeted ventilation.

bullet

Recognize pressure/volume and flow/volume loops associated with common modes in mechanical ventilation.

bullet

Recognize most commonly encountered abnormal ventilator waveforms.

bulletList the underlying causes and corrective actions in each for the above abnormal tracing.
