A Commitment to Professional Learning

The American Lung Association of CNY

The American Lung Association of Central New York  promotes lung health and prevents lung disease throughout Central New York through programs and services related to asthma, tobacco control, air quality and lung disease, and by funding lifesaving research programs. Professional education, through this annual conference and biannual symposiums, is at the core of the ALACNY mission.

Crouse Hospital’s Women’s Heart Advantage Program is a community education initiative aimed at women and their caregivers to raise awareness of heart disease as the leading cause of death in women, increase screening for heart disease among women and encourage women to seek appropriate treatment.

Crouse Hospital has a program that can help

A recent survey by Crouse Hospital revealed that 84% of women in Onondaga County between the ages of 40 and 70 are at risk for a first heart attack, while only 30% know it. That's why Crouse Hospital, in conjunction with VHA, a network of community-owned healthcare systems and physicians, has launched Women’s Heart Advantage, an initiative to raise awareness of heart disease in women – and encourage them to get appropriate treatment.

Our goals are to:

bullethelp women learn about heart disease and symptoms
bulletteach women how to keep their hearts healthy
bullethelp doctors prevent, detect and treat heart disease and heart attacks in women
bulletreduce second heart attacks in women
bulletsave lives

The American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) is a medical specialty society of physicians, surgeons, allied health professionals, and individuals with PhD degrees who specialize in diseases of the chest: pulmonology, cardiology, cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgery, hypertension, critical care medicine, and related disciplines. The ACCP creates a unique multidisciplinary approach to cardiopulmonary medicine where pulmonologists, cardiologists, thoracic surgeons, and others can come together at College events for an experience not available from other sources—examination of a topic from a perspective that encompasses all of the major specialties involved.
